Week 13 Story: Three Fishes

Three Fishes

Once upon a time, three fishes lived together in a river far away and deep in the magical forest. These fishes were named Red, Blue, and Yellow. Red's personality was very thoughtful, Yellow's personality was thoughtful, and Blue's personality was thoughtless. One day the three fishes swam to a different part of the river, a part that was outside of the forest where humans lived. Blue and Yellow wanted to live there but Red was a lot more cautious and felt that the area was a danger to them. The other two didn't want to listen to Red and voted that they stay. The next morning a fisherman walked along the river where they were and started fishing. Red noticed this and witness his friends get caught in the fisherman's net. As a means of saving his friends, Red splashed water near the fisherman's net. This tricked the fisherman into thinking that the fishes escaped so he pulled the net by the corner allowing them to escape without him realizing. After this event, Blue and Yellow thanked their friend Red and agreed to move back to their own home where they would be safe. They got back safe and sound to their old home deep in the forest where they lived happily ever after.

Author's Notes: This week's story is essentially the same story from More Jatakas: The Three Fishes, but written in my own words. The only real differences would be the fishes names. Instead of thoughtful, very thoughtful, and thoughtless, I switched the names out for colors (Red, Blue, and, Yellow) but still described them with the terms.

  1. Hello again, Kaelan! You did a good job with this story. Always fun to read the epics from India. It's also very fun to read the retellings! Some make subtle yet creative changes whereas some completely change it up to where it is hardly recognizable. I enjoyed this one a lot! Hopefully I get the opportunity to read more from you over these last couple of weeks!
